New beach area opens at Gorky Park pond

A new beach area has opened at Pioneer Pond in Gorky Park — one of Moscow’s most iconic green spaces. From this summer, visitors can swim and relax by the water without leaving the city center.

The updated area features a water purification system, comfortable sun loungers and deck chairs, and a safe swimming zone. A new playground with slides, swings, and a climbing course was also added nearby, along with a shaded rest zone for parents.

Pioneer Pond, once known as the “Small Pond” in the 19th century, has a rich history and was once frequented by notable figures like actor Mikhail Chekhov and singer Feodor Chaliapin.

Now, after years of limited use, the pond has been revitalized into a modern leisure spot — just steps away from the Garden Ring. It’s the perfect place to cool off, enjoy the sun, and spend a summer day outdoors in the heart of Moscow.
