Moscow is a sprawling metropolis built on seven hills, and the only way to truly take it all in is from up above. Luckily, there are several ways to enjoy the city from a bird’s-eye view — from a scenic cable car to the highest open-air observation deck in Europe. Here’s our guide to the best spots to admire the Russian capital from on high.
Zipline
If you’re after thrills and have a head for heights — Skypark Zipline is hard to beat. Soar over the Moscow River from Vorobyovy Gory (Sparrow Hills) to the Luzhniki Embankment at speeds of up to 60 km/h, with 700 metres of steel cable and breathtaking views below. The ride is open to anyone over the age of seven (with special rules for children), but it only operates during the warmer months. If you're an early riser, take advantage of a discounted ticket from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Sparrow Hills Cable Car
Prefer something a little calmer? The Sparrow Hills cable car offers a gentle ride in cosy enclosed cabins, each seating up to eight people. As you glide across the river, you’ll spot the Luzhniki Stadium, the banks of the Moscow River, and the soaring towers of the Moscow-City business centre. The ride is just over 700 metres long and runs daily. For something a bit more special, you can book a ride in a premium cabin.

Sun of Moscow
Standing tall at VDNH, the Sun of Moscow is one of Europe’s tallest Ferris wheels — and a great way to see the capital from above, whatever the weather. At 140 metres high, with each rotation taking 18 minutes, you’ll get panoramic views of VDNH (a sprawling park and museum in one), the iconic Ostankino TV Tower, the Cosmos Hotel, and the Monument to the Conquerors of Space.

VDNH Cable Car
If the Ferris wheel feels a bit too lofty for your liking, hop on the VDNH cable car — sometimes called the “air tram.” Its sleek, futuristic cabins seat up to eight passengers and cover a distance of just over 700 metres — giving you a unique view of VDNH’s most famous sights from the air.

PANORAMA360
At a jaw-dropping 327 metres high, PANORAMA360 is the highest indoor observation deck in Europe. Located on the 89th floor of the Federation Tower in Moscow-City, it offers sweeping views across the capital — along with the two tallest sweet factories in the world (yes, really — one for chocolate, one for ice cream), a restaurant, gift shop, and a virtual exhibition. You could easily spend an entire afternoon here — just hope for clear skies!

Only Love Is Above
Also perched in Moscow-City, this one’s for true daredevils: #OnlyLoveIsAbove is the highest open-air observation deck in Europe, located atop the OKO Tower at 354 metres. A ticket gets you more than just the view — it includes a guided tour, a small complimentary treat, and access to regular events held on the deck, plus an on-site café and gift shop.

Sparrow Hills Observation Deck
Set in a protected natural reserve, Sparrow Hills is a classic Moscow lookout spot and a favourite for leisurely strolls and outdoor exercise. From the viewing platform, you’ll see the winding Moscow River, the bridges and embankments, the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow State University (one of Stalin’s iconic Seven Sisters skyscrapers), and the glassy high-rises of Moscow-City. No need for a ticket — just bring your walking shoes and a camera.

Rooftop View at the Central Children’s Store
Right in the heart of the city, the historic Central Children’s Store by Lubyanka Square isn’t just for shopping — head to the rooftop for a charming view over the centre of Moscow. Open during daylight hours in good weather, the observation deck offers panoramas of the Kremlin, the colourful pedestrian street of Nikolskaya, and the domes of historic churches nearby.
