Yixing teapots on show

See over 100 Yixing teapots and ceramics — from private collections, museums, and modern masters — on display in Moscow until November 9.

On September 25, the State Museum of Oriental Art in Moscow opens the exhibition “The Magic of Purple Clay: Yixing Ceramics”. It will run until November 9, 2025.

The display presents more than 100 works by modern Yixing masters, along with historic pieces from the Museum of the Orient, the Peterhof Museum, and private collections. The exhibition explores the phenomenon of Yixing ceramics — a centuries-old cultural heritage where craftsmanship, philosophy, and art are closely intertwined.

Among the highlights is a collection of teapots from the personal archive of Russian diplomat Maria Zakharova, who shares her stories and family memories connected with these unique objects.

The exhibition occupies two floors of the main building’s annex at the Museum of the Orient. It is organized in partnership with the People’s Government of Yixing (China) and the local ceramics association, with support from Russian and Chinese cultural institutions.
