New 1.7-km range ice track opens in Kolomenskoe

A 1.7-km riverside ice track, 14 million lights, and winter views — Kolomenskoye opens one of Moscow’s biggest skating attractions.

This winter, Moscow adds a spectacular new attraction: a 1.7-kilometre open-air ice track along the Moscow River in the Kolomenskoe Museum-Reserve. It will become one of the largest skating routes in the city, welcoming over 2,500 skaters at a time.

The ice track runs along the park’s renovated promenade, now home to panoramic pavilions, a floating bar with a viewing deck, a riverside restaurant, a large amphitheatre, and sports areas. Skaters can enter and exit through three access points equipped with 12 safe rubberised turnstile zones.

A highlight of the new rink is its impressive "starry sky":

  • 140 km of garlands,
  • 14+ million tiny lights,
  • 72 ribbons of micro-LEDs mounted on 400 supports.

Together, they create a glowing canopy over the entire ice track — a magical winter scene unique to Moscow. Additional lighting comes from 2,000 LED lamps built into the rink boards, making evening skating so captivating and atmospheric.

The rink uses modern cooling technology, allowing the ice to stay firm even when temperatures rise above zero.

For visitors and families exploring Moscow in winter, the new Kolomenskoe ice track offers a memorable experience — scenic views, festive lighting, and one of the longest skating routes in the capital.
